One year of the moon in 3 mins

This is a video of the moon taken over a year and compressed into under 3 mins. Pretty cool to see how it changes!

trixbox

Yesterday I downloaded the trixbox community edition and launched it as a virtual machine. Within a few minutes I had an Asterisk PBX running outta my home. I added some numbers (they call them extensions, but whatever) and set up the port forwarding on the router. For the calls to work between numbers you have to set up “routes”. I did a basic set up so that all calls would go through as long as it was from a number, I mean extension, that I had set up. In other words, I am not allowing calls from other providers (or whatever they are called). The quick install guide at the Fonality web site was pretty good to get started with.

At first, all I wanted to set up was for my extensions to be able to call each other. But reading the (so called) basic documentation, I am starting to see the other cool things that I can do with this. I can set up the system to be able to make out going (outbound) calls via one or more other services - other Voip providers, and if I want to spend a ton of time making things work, maybe even Skype or GoogleTalk and Google Voice. But I am not sure if all that will be worth it for me or if I will ever user them… let’s see.

Flying Machine Arena

Flying machines tossing a ball to each other… awesome. But someone is controlling them, right? When will the do this on their own?

Observatory

The George Observatory is located about one hour’s drive south of Houston in the Brazos Bend State Park. It is a part of the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. They are open to the public on Saturday’s from 3pm till 10pm. Park entry ($5) gets you into the observatory too. But you need to get some kind of ticket at 5pm to be part of the viewing that starts at dusk.

Caroline Collective

Not only is this an execution of a cool concept, I love the name too! Saw similar set-ups when I was in Austin, but now in Houston, I might actually use them.
